I moved to the Isle of Man and spent the best part of a year trying to buy a house.
It was a slog. Rightmove, then every agent’s website in turn, then back round again a few days later in case something had appeared. I kept missing things. I would see a property I liked, ring the agent, and be told it had already gone — sometimes that it had gone days earlier. The good ones never seemed to sit around long enough for me to find them by looking.
What I actually wanted was simple: to be told as soon as something came on the market that fitted what I was after. Nothing existed that did it, so I built it for myself.
It worked. It found a property, I was the first person through the door, and I bought it.
That is the whole story. Having built it, it seemed a waste to keep it to myself — anyone buying here is up against the same problem I was. So it is now a public site, and I hope other people find it as useful as I did.
It is no longer a one-person job. Much of what the site does now has been built alongside young entrepreneurs from the Island — genuinely capable people whose work has turned a rough personal tool into something worth other people’s time. Building it with people at the start of their own careers, for a problem that hits their generation hardest, has turned out to be the best part of it.
MyMove lets you search residential and commercial property listings from Isle of Man estate agents in one place, then sends you to the agent to view them. Before it existed, finding a home here meant checking eight or nine agent websites in turn, each with its own search, its own filters and its own idea of what counts as available.
Listings are collected from the agents' own public websites. The property, the photographs and the details belong to the marketing agent, and MyMove links back to the original listing on every card. We do not sell property, act in any transaction, or take a commission.
Sold price and market statistics come from the Isle of Man Land Registry transaction report, published by the Isle of Man Government under the Open Government Licence.
